This was my 5th time making a makiwara and I have learned each time. Pay attention to the details and you&#8217;ll avoid the pitfalls. You&#8217;ll be up and punching in no time!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><em>Well, actually it&#8217;s going to take you a few hours&#8230; and some considerable effort.<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>However when you&#8217;re done you&#8217;ll have a traditional makiwara and the satisfaction building it yourself. Enjoy!<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/L-R-u_yKCJ8?rel=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Materials required:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>One 4&#8243; x 4&#8243;x 8&#8242; pressure treated piece of lumber (for the post)<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>One 2&#8243; x 4&#8243; x 8&#8242; pressure treated piece of lumber (for the cross braces\/supports)<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Rope or grass cord<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Straw or similar material for the &#8220;cushion&#8221;<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Waterproof sealer or paint<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Rocks<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Stones<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Sand<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Equipment needed:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Electric skill saw<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Impact driver \/ drill<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Decking screws &#8211; 3 inch<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Paint brush<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Safety glasses<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Clamps <em>(to hold the lumber in place while you cut it)<\/em><\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>A shovel<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>A wheelbarrow is helpful<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Tape measure<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Pencil<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Painter&#8217;s tape<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Skills required:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>A little DIY knowledge. It&#8217;s a fairly simple process but you have to know how to cut a piece of wood and operate power tools.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Patience. <em>(You&#8217;re going to make mistakes even with my awesome tutorial. Lol.)<\/em><\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>3rd grade mathematics.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Common sense. =)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Disclaimer!<\/strong> If you cut off your own fingers or do something else to cause yourself injury while attempting to build your own makiwara, it&#8217;s going to be much more difficult to use it when you&#8217;re done. Please be careful. You are responsible for your own actions.
